I have a lot more info on my install, and if you're interested you can PM me for more details. Everyting sounds fantastic and the CarPlay is completely wireless and works with Apple and Android devices. The display is a full screen display on the OEM screen and looks great! I was able to tap into the under-seat subwoofer speaker signal and, with a cheap line output converter, added an 8" JL Audio sub to my sound system. It's not touch screen, but everything is controlled through the iDrive controller on the center console. The coding through BimmerCode allows you to use the "Aux" output from the rear quadralock on the back of the CIC unit without having to run the Aux cable to the center console and, in my opinion, doesn't degrade the sound quality through the OEM speaker system.Īs for the look and functionality of the Carsara CarPlay unit. All in all, I'm pretty impressed with the outcome of my project. Anyhow, the goal for me was to add a subwoofer to my system in addition to the CarPlay option. I bought the Carsara unit from an member on the forum, so I'm not sure where to buy a new unit from (maybe AliExpress?). I followed some forum posts about installing the Carsara unit in my ride and used simple coding via BimmerCode so as not to run the Aux cable for audio output. I don't know if this helps or not but I just did an Apple CarPlay upgrade to my 2011 E93. The xTron unit iDrive replacement Vehicle Virals has is very similar to the AVIN unit, I wouldn't be surprised if the hardware is identical. CarPlay runs through an app, which needed to be activated from Hong Kong, which I was skeptical at first, but it works for my friend. If you want an full fledged Android head unit I would suggest AVIN, every unit is same for the most part from other sellers but AVIN provides great customer support, did an install for a friend and they enjoy it. I changed the settings to make it tolerable but I found the AUX input to be better in my circumstance. The audio does output thru AUX, there is a CarPlay box from Mr12Volt that sends audio through MOST (only product in the market that supports this afaik) but many, including myself, report a lack of bass for a product that promises CD-like quality. Many are happy with this, and it's the most cost effective way to modernize the infotainment. Bimmertech sells this for $700 but you can pick up an Aliexpress/Andream unit for $250 and it's the same product/quality. It uses the OEM screen and provides CarPlay/Android Auto/Bluetooth/Screen Mirroring. The MMI box is a solid option, no need to replace the screen. You guys said that it's because the new headunit screen is a different resolution then the stock one? Or did you mean aspect ratio? If it's the resolution issue, then what is the OEM res? I don't think any of the aftermarket ones match that since it's a dated system. But if the OEM iDrive screen is messed up then that's not gonna be good. If it's as easy as adjusting the aspect ratio then that's fine. That's how it was for the andream mmi CarPlay units at least, and I think a few of the screen replacement units.ĭamn I'm pretty torn now. I believe there are settings within the Android OS part that will adjust the screen ratio for the OEM screen, the setting just needs to be changed on some models. Oem menu works as oem with same resolutionīack up camera plug n play with guiding lines.Īpply play resolution looks as oem as cars that had it from the factory. Dx11 says the oem idrive menu is messed up because the display screen is not centered in the video and it has that useless second display on the right.
